Dance Competition Rules and Process

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR CHOREOGRAPHERS for the WAIVER OF LIABILITY:

Please note that the Waiver of Liability (click here to get the PDF copy) must be signed by the participant (or parent/legal guardian if the participant is a minor), and must be uploaded on your Choreographer portal on or before the  participant registration is due, so that the India Festival of Tampa Bay's Entries committee gets it in time for the review.


IMPORTANT NOTE FOR PARTICIPANTS AND PARENTS/GUARDIANS:

By providing yours or your child's information to us and subsequently with your/his/her participation at our events, you voluntarily grant to India Festival and Gujarati Samaj of Tampa Bay, the absolute and irrevocable right and unrestricted permission to use participant's name, likeness, image, voice and/or appearance in any photos, video recordings, audiotapes, digital images, and the like, taken or made on behalf of the India Festival of Tampa Bay and Gujarati Samaj of Tampa Bay. You also agree that India Festival and Gujarati Samaj of Tampa Bay has complete ownership of such material and can use said material for  any purpose consistent with the it's mission. These uses include, but are not limited to photographs, videos, publications, advertisements, news releases, websites, and any promotional or educational materials in any medium. You acknowledge that you will not receive any compensation for the use of such images, video, likeness, etc. Further, you release, waive, forever discharge, hold harmless and covenant not to sue India Festival and Gujarati Samaj of Tampa Bay, its trustees, board members, employees, students, contractors, agents or representatives from and against any and all liability for any harm, injury, damage, claims, actions, causes of action, costs, demands, and expenses of any nature whatsoever relating to the making, showing, distribution or use of your likeness in photos or videos published by India Festival and Gujarati Samaj of Tampa Bay.

Following rules are applied to all divisions and Dance types. Dance specific rules are explained in later part of the document. Dance specific rules will override common rules which are explained below. India festival Committee can provide waiver to these rules under some acceptable situations. But it depends upon discretion of organizing committee. It is not a general rule.....

Eligibility

  • Participants must be residents of USA. Visitors to USA are not permitted to participate.
  • Participants can participate in maximum of two dances from two different divisions except for Colleges & Adult divisions. (Example: Minor Garba & Junior Raas). This rule is waived only for College and Adult divisions who also can participate in maximum of two dances in the same or different divisions.
  • Choreographers and directors can bring no more than one dance category within same age division. For example: the same Choreographer/director cannot bring two minor garba teams.
  • Competition is confined to amateurs only. Professional teams are not permitted to participate. A professional who directs/choreographs for a fee, may not participate in his/her own team.
  • This rule does not apply to College and Adult divisions

Team Requirements

  • Only Indian Classical and Indian Folk dances in a team format are allowed.
  • Maximum participants per team are limited to 20 members for all divisions ( Bhangra team can have 20 participant+1 Dholi+1 Kirtal)
  • Minimum 8 participants are required in a team.

Participant Registration

  • We are taking one more step for a paperless workflow. Please help us save the environment, and provide participant information to the Choreographer so she/he can register online.
  • Choreographers have to register themselves first and then they will see the participant forms on their portal.
